We are pleased to help - You are welcome to browse.
Being staffed mainly by Qualified Dance Teachers enables us to
supply sympathy and experience as well as quality products.
This is very important with pointe shoes of which we have a particularly good range.
Pointe shoes enable ballet dancers to stand upright on their toes whilst dancing. This is not a natural human endevour
and requires training, strength and good fitting. There are no absolutes but here are a few probables:-
Earliest start age is around the twelth birthday.
Point shoes do not contain a wooden block - it is built up from layers of hessian; paper and glue.
Only shoes made in this way should be worn by students.
Flat feet / poor pointing requires short vamps.
High arches require deep vamps / wing blocks.
Toes should be flat and side by side; but pressure should be felt from the sides of the block.
The big toe should touch the end of the block but should not press against it.
When on pointe there should be a quarter of an inch spare at the heel; and the sole of the shoe
should align with the foot.
If inserts must be worn they should be as thin as possible.
Large soft inserts do not encourage good stance and often cause problems later.
The wearing of pointe shoes leads to problems if not accompanied by posture training and adaquate strength.
Do not rush to see your child dancing on Pointe.
