Saturday Scholarship at the age of nine. She trained at the London School of the Arts Educational from the ages of twelve to seventeen whilst there working in Television and Theatre. She then appeared in Summer Shows and Pantomimes and in the West End for six years where she appeared in the original productions of “Funny Girl” and “Fiddler on the Roof”. After having a family she took up teaching.

These teachers instruct in the Government Endorsed Foundation (FDI) and Certificate (CDE) teacher training qualifications on behalf of the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). They also examine for the ISTD Graded syllabus programme in the UK and abroad.

Trained at Laine Theatre Arts from 1984 to 1987 gaining her Associate qualifications at that time. She worked as a dancer then head dancer aboard the cruise liner “Cunard Princess” for three and a half years. She then transferred to the QE2 as head dancer then Company Manager for three years. She spent some time dancing in Syria between QE2 contracts.

Katy is now teaching full time and has her own dance school www.salisburydancestudios.co.uk which we would recommend. She is an Approved Teacher Trainer of FDI & CDE at Roynon Dance Centre.

Virginia is an approved Teacher Trainer for the Foundation in Dance Instruction (FDI) and Certificate in Dance Education (CDE) Qualifications. She is a UK & International Examiner in Classical Ballet, Tap Dance, Modern Theatre and National for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). She is the School Principal of Roynon Dance Centre.

Virginia trained with Bush Davies then danced professionally until she met and married David Wilkinson. Teaching then became the chosen career and after a break to raise a family Roynon was started at first in a very small way.

Virginia Wilkinson has been an examiner for almost 20 years in the U.K. and abroad. During which time as well as teaching at and running the Roynon has been involved as a visiting lecturer and adjudicator for summer schools ballet clubs and courses in many areas including the R.A.D. Southern Region. Virginia has Choreographed professional and amateur pantomimes and shows and television productions as well as for Roynon Performances.

As founder and original Chairman of Southampton Dance Circle she instigated the workshops and involvement for students in professional situations as well as helping to forge and foster a community spirit amongst local teachers. Many of the local teachers around Southampton received some or all of their training with Virginia Wilkinson.

Non Teaching Customer Helpers

Rebecca Jakins - Dance Centre Manager

Rebecca is your Customer Assistance & Centre Manager. She arranges examination entries and dates; customer course upgrades and timetabling, prepares invoices, plans events, advertising, newsletters and day to day administration.

She is the first port of call for problems and knows the most about the non syllabus aspects of the dance centre and the overall welfare of customers.

Rebecca is always delighted to be able to help.

David Wilkinson - Retail Dance Shop Manager

David is the Proprietor of Roynon Dancewear Shop.

After a career in Systems Engineering and Computer Software development, David is pleased to be able to serve the dancing community.

David is an expert in Tap Shoe Fitting. We often also have customer assistants in the shop who are experienced dancers who can advise on the appropriate use and fitting of dancewear.

Elizabeth maintains Roynon Dance Studios in good order.

Jessica is a Student at Roynon. She ensures there is someone in the School Office on Saturday Mornings and provides Learning Support for some infant classes.
